Alpine Lake - 20 February, 1995

Trudy, Elizabeth and Susie and I went across Bon Tempe dam, and started walking along the cool side of Alpine Lake. It was wet with the night's fog, so we walked down to the lake itself, went across on the deer path at the foot of the dam, and rambled around the grass and marsh near the lake. On the way back to the car I saw a patch of my favorite springtime flowers - Shooting Stars. It was primo day - 75 degrees and sunny. On February 20th! Don't ya just LOVE the Bay Area!?!

Here's what we saw:

Birds
Mallard, Widgeon, Bufflehead, Ruddy Duck, Turkey Vulture, Red-tailed Hawk, Scrub Jay, Common Crow, Rufous-sided Towhee, Golden-Crowned Sparrow, .

Mammals
Black-tailed deer.

Mushrooms
Turkey Tails, ?Crown Cup?

Reptiles & Amphibians
Tadpoles.

Trees
Douglas Fir, Coastal Redwood, Coast Live Oak, California Laurel, Madrone.

Wildflowers
California Buttercup, Milk Maids, Henderson's Shooting Star, Hound's Tongue.
