A gracious good morning!

Here's what my family and I see from San Francisco -- the Golden Gate Bridge, sailboats on SF Bay, the Marin Headlands, and Mt. Tamalpais in the background. (No fog on this rosy morning!)

During the Winter and Spring I used to spend at least one day during the weekend hiking the hills in Marin or Contra Costa counties. I like to ramble the trails, away from the mountain bikers, and search out the local flora and fauna. A good "mind floss" to balance the pressures of work. Take a peek. Maybe it'll motivate you to join in the fun.

In the Winter, November to January, I've learned to add mushroom foraging to my hikes. My 13 year old daughter, Elizabeth, is a great partner. She sees more 'shrooms than I do. I keep teasing her that it's because she's closer to the ground, but I think it's those younger eyes.

In the Spring, February to May, the wildflowers hold court in the woods and on the hillsides. Some of them have great names -- Fetid Adder's Tongue, Sticky Monkey Flower... And there's always lots of birds if I'm out on the trail early enough.

In the "Summer" (June to October) I try and spend as much time as possible sailing on the Bay. I enjoy getting out on the Bay at least ONCE on the weekend. The Bay is loaded with strong winds, changing weather, and strong currents. There's an old sailor's saying -- "Those who sail for fun on San Francisco Bay would go to hell for a vacation!"

I've included some of my favorite poetry.
